If the Health and Social Care Sector was a country it would be the 5th largest greenhouse emitter on the planet. From the data already captured, the NHS is responsible for about 4% of the nation’s carbon emissions. In January 2020, the campaign for a greener NHS was launched with a route map and date for the NHS to reach net zero.
Partnering with Grace Cares is a valuable addition to any NHS trust. Donating unrequired care equipment supports the NHS’s journey to net zero and demonstrates a commitment to ESG credentials.
There are many benefits to your NHS Trust or GP Practice to partner with Grace Cares including cost saving/avoidance, net zero and sustainability impact, corporate social responsibility, best practice and other benefits. We currently partner with five NHS trusts and are happy to connect you with any of them to discuss how our collaboration benefits them. CASE STUDY: Birmingham NHS Community Trust
We currently support the Birmingham NHS Community Trust. We travel to their pick-up/storage location and pick up any working and reusable care equipment they need to get rid of.
- We work closely with their waste manager
- We set up a dedicated email for them to communicate with us to ensure no requests are missed. They are also able to phone Grace Cares head office number and have all three founder’s mobile phone numbers.
- All of our pickup personnel are always wearing appropriate protection and are clearly identifiable as they wear branded Grace Cares apparel. We also produce a poster of our pick up team and all of our contact numbers for the porters.
- We undertake DBS checks.
- We go to their pick-up/storage location and pick up any working and reusable care equipment they need to dispose of.
- With each pick-up we require both parties to fill in donation forms (that we provide but have been created with the Birmingham NHS Community Trust) that outlines when the pickup has taken place and by whom, what items have been picked up and what condition they are in. This is signed by both a representative from Grace Cares and the NHS Community Trust. This also documents that they have donated the care equipment items and are now giving them to Grace Cares.
- We also have a formal transfer of ownership agreement signed by both entities.
Monthly IMPACT Reports
Additionally, we can produce monthly IMPACT reports for our regular and committed NHS partners. These can be used as regular documented evidence for the regulator as to how you are working towards ESG and sustainability goals.
These include statistics on:
- Carbon footprint
- Care equipment saved from landfill
- Care equipment in new homes
- Care equipment that has been repurposed
- Care equipment that has been repaired and maintained
- Population data of who uses our services
- The community impact they are part of
- The impact our grants have had on those on the care sector.
In terms of collection and waste disposal, our team are Safe Contractor approved, CHAS accredited, have the Environmental Agency waste carrier licence and are fully insured.
